Signs of a hidden gas leak
Physical signs may not necessarily accompany small gas leaks, but you may notice them in your property to hint that there’s a gas leak, including:
- Damaged gas pipes.
- Dead indoor houseplants.
- Water bubbles.
- Dust clouds near a gas line.
- Condensation on windows.
- Blown-out pilot lights.
- Burner flames not being blue.
- Hissing or whistling sounds near a gas line.
- A prevalent sulfur smell (similar to that of rotten eggs)
- As these signs occur, gas will simultaneously be leaking and escaping from the available gas lines. You may also notice that your gas bills are higher than usual as a result.
Physical Symptoms
You’ll only start to face gas leak symptoms as the amount of oxygen in the air surrounding you starts to reduce. These symptoms could include:
- Dizziness or drowsiness
- Headaches
- Eye irritation
- Throat irritation
- Nausea
- Nosebleeds
- Ringing in the ears
- Breathing difficulties
If you’re a pet owner, your pet will most likely also experience the same symptoms.
- Red or watering eyes
- Loss of appetite
- Disorientation
- Changes in behaviour
- Unconsciousness
What to do if you suspect a gas leak
If you encounter any of the symptoms above or notice any of the signs, that’s when you should reach out for our specialized services in gas leak detection and repair.
When you identify a gas, a professional needs to locate and repair it immediately
When you call us at PHS Trades Team, we ensure that an emergency gas engineer responds quickly. The engineer will cap your gas supply and ensure that you and your property are safe before proceeding with our detection and repair process.
Here are a couple of simple steps you should follow:
- Turn off your gas supply
- Keep all windows and doors open
- Don’t attempt to turn any lights or household appliances on or off
- Don’t use any electrical items inside the building, that includes your mobile phone
- Don’t use any sources of open flame, including smoke, lighters, candles, and matches
- Leave your house or property at once
Important: You must not make your call to us from within the house or property since you may trigger a gas ignition. Evacuate the property first and make the call outdoors.
